HLPs - School Psychologist Pathway
Essential Skills for ALL Educators
During the Foundations of CA MTSS - The Why you learned that High Leverage Practices (HLPs) are the foundational practices needed for ALL educators to ensure ALL students succeed in an inclusive classroom setting.
High Leverage Practices are beneficial for school psychologists as educators because they are essential for student learning as well as advancing skills in teaching. As stated in the previous video, HLPs work in combination with one another and interact with existing evidence-based practices.
The "NASP Model for Comprehensive and Integrated School Psychological Services Links to an external site." describe ten domains of practice that link directly to each HLP.
"HLPs are appropriate for most students. Not only those with disabilities. This means general education teachers and special education teachers, regardless of grade level or instructional setting could use these practices to support students in addition to their existing repertoire of intense, data-driven interventions." Kennedy, M. J., Peeples, K. N., Romig, J. E., Mathews, H. M., & Rodgers, W. J. (2018) |
HLPs are used constantly and are critical to helping students learn important content and are essential to supporting students’ social and emotional development. They should be used across subject areas, grade levels, and contexts.
