"Now we are going to talk a little bit about how we can work to stop cyberbullying and help our kids to be aware of what to do if they experience it. If it's not happening to your child right this minute, you can work on preventing it or at least fostering good communication and strategies if it ever happens.
Kids start bullying behavior young, so talk about it early (ideally before your child starts using devices to communicate online).

Encourage empathy early and often. You can do this by trying to help your child see the perspectives of and understand the feelings of others.
As your child goes online more often, talk through potential scenarios and strategies. You might start conversations about or share online resources about the following questions:
- What can cyberbullying look like?
- What information or content should they keep offline?
- How do they block someone on different platforms?
- How do they take a screenshot on different devices?
- When is it time to get adult help?
Stay involved: It can be tempting to stay out of a child's digital life because that's what they'd prefer (and it's not always easy to stay involved), but spot checks and check-ins can set the stage for more open communication later.
Set limits: By having a family plan around device-free times and zones and rules around use, not only can you stay on the same page, but it also can help keep the conversation about online safety ongoing and open. Common Sense Media has developed a great tool that families can use called the Family Media Agreement. You will have a chance to take a look at that document at the end of this module and reflect on what you might be able to implement with your family.
Model digital citizenship: Start asking your child if it's OK to post pictures of them, and encourage them to always do the same with friends and family members.
Be kind online yourself.
