How can I support my child's engagement and behavior?

Have your child engage in age-appropriate decision-making about their learning. A good practice is to have a set learning space that is not distracting, but allows flexibility (a table and chair, a comfortable pillow on the floor, or a couch) so they can move to a new spot when they need to reposition. Keep in mind that in school, they rarely sit in a seat for a whole class. Allow your child to move, and even consider stepping outside to read or write or listen to music for a time. Also include plenty of brain-breaks, water/snack time, and time for physical play.
